"and when you were baptized, it was the same as being buried with Christ. then you were raised to life because you had faith in the power of God, who raised Christ from death."
Colossians 2:12 (CEV)
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision. Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, the next natural step is to tell people of your decision. That's what baptism is for - it's a chance to publicly declare that you have become a Christian and that you h Save ave given Jesus Christ the driver's seat of your life.
sprinkle or dunk?
We believe in baptism by immersion, which means dunking your entire body under water. That's the way Jesus did it and that's the way we do it around here. When you are lowered back into the water and raised up again, it represents the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. There's nothing magical about the water - the miracle occurred when you invited Jesus into your heart. Think about it, the one who is big enough to create the universe is the same one who is personal enough to come and live inside your heart. Now that's a miracle.
